How Does it Work?

Student Tax Returns offers you an easy and efficient professional service. Our Application Form takes only three minutes to complete, and once you have sent us your details we take care of everything.

You are probably owed money from the current financial year (March 2009 - March 2010), however we also check your entire five year personal tax history. You might be owed money from as far back as 2006; and if so, we'll get it for you.

Personal finances can be difficult to understand, so this service is designed to take care of all the calculations and forms you need to complete, leaving you with more time to concentrate on your studies.

 

 

What Happens After I Sign Up? 

Once you sign up online you will receive an email from us to confirm we have received your application. We will then mail you a paper copy of your application to sign and return to us in an enclosed Freepost envelope. The only other thing we require from you is a form of Photo ID, and you can send this to us in a number of ways; 

 

1. Enclose a copy with your application form. 
2. Take a photograph, either on your laptop camera or a regular digital camera, and email it to us. 
3. Scan a copy and email it to us.

 

Once you have done that you can sit back and relax - we will begin to process your tax return immediately and will be in contact with you as soon as we have determined whether you are due a return or not. This can take between ten and thirty working days depending on the size of your tax return and the current workload of the IRD. We then file your return with the IRD and wait for the funds to clear. This can take a further ten to thirty working days. Every day we process tax returns from our trust account, so as soon as we have received your total refund it will be deposited into your bank account. When this happens we will notify you to let you know of your total return. Please note that virtually all of the waiting time in this process is due to the IRD and not our own team. We will always endeavour to bring you the fastest possible service. 

 

Update, April 2010; Tax Returns for the previous financial year (March '09 - March '10) are not available to our accountants for processing until June 18, 2010. If you sign up today, as soon as we are able to process these returns we will do so, and we will let you know the result. 

 

What are your fees?

Our average fee comes to only $49 - that's less than half you would pay through a regular accountant. And we only charge a fee if you get money back - so there's no chance that you're going to come out worse off by Signing Up. 

How do we charge you? We charge only 17.5% of your return, which makes us the cheapest and easiest option for Kiwi students anywhere. Moreover, if you get under $80 we don't charge you a cent either, so you can keep it all. If you receive over $80 then our minimum fee of $40 applies - but remember, our average client receives a tax return of $281!

This is significantly more than most people receive by applying for their own tax return. Our chartered accountants know the system, and they know how to get you as much money as possible. We have many clients who applied for a tax return by themself and received nothing - yet when they signed up with us, have received hundrds of dollars back! 

 

Is There Anything Else I Should Know?

After signing up with our service you will receive a letter from the IRD confirming that you have been linked as a client to GSM Mclauchlan Accountants Ltd. This is a legal requirement that allows us to act on your behalf. You will also be notified that the bank account nominated for your tax return has been changed to our trust account. This is in order for us to receive your tax return on your behalf and pay it out to you. Our trust account is fully audited and protected under New Zealand law.

Please note that we will not act on your behalf after filing any outstanding tax returns. We will not perform any more work without your express permission, and you are able to de-link yourself from our agency whenever you wish. See our Terms & Conditions.
